Just bug fixes? Where are you guys?

And no new years post either!

Hi folks. Sorry about the radio silence. We are actively working on new features and not far off from a major release; but, it’s taken some time.

Where we were in 2025

We had just released the new render engine and back-end processing improvements.

Then our #1 developer had to take a sabbatical which left yours truly all by himself at the helm. The key focus then was designing a new feature set for a major release once our main guy returned and keeping up with bug fixes.

We got eight bug fix releases out the door and made a lot of behind the scenes progress on the next big thing. We’ve been back in high gear since January this year and hoping to launch this summer.

What we’ve been working on…

Rebranding

Even though we own the trademark for our site, there is a European firm with the same name and their ad budget is way bigger than ours. We could win the battle here in the states but not internationally and the cost is not worth it.

MacENC trademark was not possible. Apple didn’t like us using Mac in the name.

So, a new site, company, and software name is secured and we have to change everything everywhere all at once. Software, Web Sites, Logo’s, site artwork, Vendor agreements, company listings… everything.

New Render Engine completion

We are finishing the build out of the new engine, adding the S-57 elements we left in backlog last year, and adding filter ability so you can tune what you see on charts and what you don’t want to see.

Move to Apple Mac App Store

We’re ending direct distribution from our web site and moving into the Mac App store. This needed a lot of work but the benefits are worth it:

  • In app chart store – find your charts and just get them. No more fiddling with launch of our website, separate account setup, and third party reseller.
  • Sign in with Apple – simple login using Apple and no extra identity management.
  • Easily manage subscription renewals – using Apple’s built in management for seamless control of your content.
  • Simplified upgrade management just like your other Apple Mac Apps.

Under the covers architectural improvements:

  • We are finally tackling the technical debt in our storied MacENC.
  • New data model to allow for faster new feature enhancements.
  • Rewrite of code into modern Swift as we go. Bit by bit we are renovating to the modern standard.

All of that is a big lift and what’s been taking all our time.

Stay Tuned!
